Trees & Shrubs Might Go Dormant in the Winter
But They Still Need Fertilizer, Water and a Nice, Warm Blanket!
Because trees and shrubs go dormant during the winter, we often forget how important it is to continue taking care of them when the temperatures begin to drop. Even though trees aren't producing leaves and blooms during the fall and winter, their roots continue to grow as long as the ground is not frozen.
If you don't take care of your trees and shrubs during the cold season, stress can take its toll, and you might have some dead trees and shrubs in the spring.
Proper care includes:
- Continuing to water them until the ground freezes - understanding that right now we have to count on the rain to do that due to the drought
- Providing adequate mulch to keep the roots warm and healthy
- Fertilizing them now to carry them through the winter
You can take care of the watering and mulching, but let Arbor-Nomics take care of the fertilization between November 1st and February 1st.
If you are not already on a tree and shrub program, Arbor-Nomics can apply one application of a slow-release fertilizer that will last until your trees and shrubs break out next spring. It reacts to soil temperatures and fertilizes your trees and shrubs when they need it. What will this one application do for them?
- Make them healthier this spring by creating a stronger root system
- Help them resist disease and insects
- Promote growth and greener leaves this spring
