Grassy Weed Control

Gnomes don’t like weeds. Neither do we – and neither do you. But they can spread fast. So, let’s get rid of them as soon as they appear.

The four most persistent common grassy and broadleaf weeds in Atlanta-area lawns are:

  • Nutsedge
  • Fescue clumps in non-Fescue lawns
  • Wild violets
  • Virginia buttonweed

Each of these requires a different treatment. If you have weeds, call us to come out to identify them and recommend a course of treatment.

A post-emergent herbicide is added to combat more difficult perennial weeds that cannot be controlled with pre-emergent applications included with the silver plan.

Nutsedge.

Nutsedge is a perennial grassy weed that can grow in any lawn but is most common in Bermuda lawns. A warm-season, it is most active from April through September.

What we can do about it.
We can control nutsedge with three applications of a product created specifically for the problem.

Fescue clumps.

Fescue is a cool-season grass that often grows in large bright-green lumps or patches. As a fast-growing invader, it can interfere with the smooth, even quality of a Bermuda or Zoysia lawn and must be controlled.

What we can do about them.
We can control these unwanted clumps with three applications of a product created specifically for the problem.

Wild violets.

Though beautiful when they bloom in the spring, these perennials can soon become persistent, quick-spreading weeds. Colonies usually start in the shade and spread to sunnier areas. You can control them yourself if you dig them up and remove the entire root using a sharp knife to sever the deepest and most stubborn roots.

What we can do about them.
We can keep wild violets in check with three applications of a product created specifically for wild violets.

Virginia buttonweed.

This deep-rooted perennial is one of the most difficult broadleaf weeds to control. It thrives from spring throughout the summer in moist-to-wet areas.

What we can do about it.
We can control this stubborn broadleaf weed with three applications of a product created specifically for buttonweed.
