Natural Holiday Décor from Your Landscape

Are you an avid gardener who takes pride in creating beautiful landscapes? Then consider bringing in some of your most prized plants indoors for natural winter season décor. At Arbor-Nomics, we provide premium lawn care services for property owners in the metro Atlanta, Georgia area. Our team of professionals enjoy helping our customers get the most from their lawn and gardens and we want to do the same for you. Here are some fun and exciting ways that you can prepare your home for the holiday season, with materials from your very own yard.

Make a Mini Tree from Pruned Evergreen Branches
Evergreen trees need to be trimmed routinely to guide their growth and to ensure they receive proper sunlight and airflow. Put those beautiful branches to good use by creating your very own miniature Christmas tree from the pruned limbs. You’ll need to use several branches and a little extra ingenuity, but you can make the branches resemble a small sapling by arranging them using a green Styrofoam cone as the base. Not only will you eliminate the need to cut down a fresh tree, but you can showcase your favorite backyard Spruce in a new and interesting way.

Make a Wreath from Natural Materials
While it may be more convenient to run out the nearest store and buy a plastic wreath for your front door, why not go the extra mile and create a more traditional wreath by foraging for materials in your own yard? You can also create amazing garlands to adorn your doorways, fireplace mantle or dining table. Here are a few items that you can gather and arrange from your own trees, bushes and landscaping plants:

  • illow branches, pine needles and small twigs from trees can be soaked in water, bent and tied to create the ring.
  • Add in foliage from evergreen trees and bushes.
  • To break up the green color, strategically place sprigs of tiny red berries. Try to avoid using poisonous varieties to keep pets and family members safe. Currents, Barberry, Hobble Bush and Winterberry are nice alternatives.
  • Don’t forget to add a few pinecones.

Dry Flowers, Stems and Herbs for an Aromatic Potpourri
Do you love the cinnamon, clove and nutmeg aromas that instantly evoke memories of past winter holidays? Create your own fragrant potpourri using dried miniature pinecones, flowers and small branches from your landscape. Mix the dried materials with your favorite seasonally inspired essential oils and arrange them in a decorative bowl or apothecary jar.
